Figuring out the most effective way to ship your products is arguably the most important component of running a successful Shopify store.

So before you start taking orders, you need to determine which shipping methods you plan to use. Once you make that decision, you’ll be able to set up your store so that customers can choose their delivery preferences during the checkout process.

In order to ship products, you must go through the main steps outlined in the shipping checklist.

I’ll show you how to do each item on the checklist in this tutorial.

Shipping Rates and Shipping Methods

When you’re figuring out how much to charge your customers for shipping, these are the best options for you to consider:

  • Exact shipping — Customer gets charged the same amount that the carrier charges to ship.
  • Flat rate shipping — Customer gets charged a flat rate based on factors like weight or order value.
  • Free shipping — Customers who meet certain requirements (such as $100 minimum order) don’t have to pay for shipping.

Follow these steps to set your shipping rates:

Step #1: Select “Shipping” from your Shopify settings page.

Step #2: Navigate to “Shipping Zones” and select “Add Shipping Zone.”

Step #3: Add rates based on your predetermined factors.
